Get to know our incredible Manager of Bilingual and Bicultural Programs, Laura Lecave!

0:13: Today, we're interviewing our bilingual bicultural programs manager, Laura La Cave.
0:30: Positive Images.
0:33: My name is Laura and La Cave.
0:35: My title is bilingual Bicultural Programs manager.
0:38: And my pronouns are actually her.
0:40: Yeah.
0:41: What are your three top passions?
0:44: My three top passions are photography, hike and just nature and birds.
0:51: I love birds.
0:52: If you were a mermaid, what would your mea be if I was a mermaid?
0:57: My tail will be purple and my superpower will be read minds in the water.
1:04: How would your friends describe you?
1:06: Lo OK.
1:09: My friends will describe me as very extroverted, lots of energy like a Labrador retriever dog.
1:19: I have that will also describe me as I like, I'm a go go person and I just love going on adventures.
1:28: How did you first hear about P I first heard about positive images when Javier Rosales was the E D here.
1:39: And I had a connection with him via other friends and I started doing volunteer work for P I.
1:45: So how did you wind up an employee of positive images?
1:53: Here funny story.
1:55: I saw the Instagram post api because I followed and I saw that they were hiring.
2:00: So my friend Jos, she texted me and she's like they're hiring.
2:04: And I said, I know, but I don't think that's for me because I feel like they need more experience.
2:08: I have a lot of my posts syndrome.
2:10: And then I contacted jazz.
2:12: I was like, because I knew jazz.
2:14: I was like, J can I call you?
2:15: I know you're hiring, I'm interested, but I'm a little nervous and I was applying for the actually Navigator job and not the manager job and how I became an employee was, took my guts and I was like, I'm applying and I did, I know you've been really involved with the letter people.
2:31: How did that get started?
2:33: Yeah.
2:33: So the letter people started back in 2014, 15.
2:38: We, I just started with literally like eight people.
2:41: And then I took the role of a director assisting, developing increase on community increase of like building LGBT Q folks, especially when it comes in relations to the professionalism and having each other's connections and referrals.
2:56: So this group was really brought up a lot of connection within the LGBT Q community.
3:02: The one thing that it was lacking was a lot of the bilingual part of things.
3:06: But I think as it grew because it went from literally four, from 48 people to like 500 members.
3:14: What's the most rewarding part of working for P I?
3:16: To you the most rewarding part of working for P I so many?
3:20: Is it going to be a year next month since I've been working for P I I think is the amazing team that we can handle anything.
3:29: And like we don't have all people running the world.
3:34: Like we don't have, we have a bunch of us are young entrepreneurs, brain like so many good brains.
3:40: And I feel like I feel motivated every day for that.
3:43: And the older part also, it's like building something like a new program, a bilingual program I think has been really empowering.
3:52: What are you up to when you're in the office?
3:56: I'm up to lots of readings, lots of connecting with community, lots of partnership with other agencies that speak Spanish, emails, emails, emails.
4:08: but also creating like also like guides for programs or creating like data for E Y C or creating some things that will help us continue grow the bilingual program.
4:19: So there's a lot, a lot of the behind the scenes and I feel like a lot of this stuff have to do with like lots of writing, lots of reading, lots of connecting, lots of talking, lots of like mingling with people too in networking spaces.
4:33: What do you wish people knew about P I I wish they knew that this place has been open for 34 years and that they had services for so for people here like in the county, I wish they knew that this space was open, knowing that existed.
