Director of Development
Location: Santa Rosa, CA (Hybrid eligibility based on role)
Hours: Full-Time, Exempt (30–40 hours/week)
Compensation: $90,103/year FTE, benefits eligible
Reports To: Executive Director

About the Role
We’re looking for a Director of Development to join our team!
This role leads the design, implementation, and stewardship of Positive Images’ fundraising strategy in close partnership with the Executive Director, supported by the Programs & Outreach Manager, Development Team, and Board of Directors.
The Director of Development oversees donor and funder stewardship, grant writing and management, the annual GAYla, the End-of-Year Campaign, donor CRM systems, strategic communications, and visibility efforts, all in service of long-term organizational sustainability.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, both creative and systems-driven, and is ideal for someone who loves building structures that help an organization grow, cultivating meaningful community relationships, and telling powerful stories rooted in equity, resilience, and queer joy.

Donor Development & Stewardship

Build and sustain relationships with individual, major, and legacy donors

Write donor communications and conduct donor visits

Coordinate Board member participation in fundraising

Ensure timely donor acknowledgements and engagement opportunities
Grants & Institutional Giving
-
Research, track, and cultivate foundation and funder prospects
-
Lead proposal writing and grant reporting
-
Maintain grant calendars, compliance, and recording
Special Events & Campaigns
-
Serve as lead for the annual GAYla
-
Manage logistics, sponsorship outreach, donor engagement, and cross-team coordination
-
Support other fundraising events, donor mixers, and digital fundraising campaigns

Lead creation and deployment of the End-of-Year Campaign
Strategic Communications & Profile Raising

Support PI’s storytelling and donor-facing communications
-
Collaborate on development newsletters, impact reports, and fundraising collateral

Help position PI as a regional leader in LGBTQIA2S+ inclusion
Data Management & Administration

Maintain donor and prospect records in Harness Giving (CRM)

Track fundraising metrics and giving trends

Ensure strong administrative systems and documentation
Minimum Qualifications
-
Strong writing skills and ability to convey impact clearly

2-3 Years Experience in fundraising, donor stewardship, nonprofit development, or grant writing

Experience with CRM/Donor Management software (we use Harness Giving)

Excellent interpersonal communication with the ability to speak persuasively and listen deeply

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Experience in Employee and Department Management
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

Bilingual Spanish/English

Knowledge of Sonoma County, Bay Area, or LGBTQIA2S+ funding landscapes

Experience working with multiracial, multigender, multicultural, and intergenerational communities

Strong project management and administrative skills
