My Name is Elizabeth, but I also go by Liz, Eli, Dork, or Turbo (Motorcycle nickname). I'm 18 years old, fresh out of High School. I've been a part of PI for 5 years. I must say it is one of the best things that has ever happened to me, hanging out with this great group of folks. I don't really consider it a "support group", because, it feels more like one big family! I love it! It is a community of its own.
I felt very welcomed when I first joined. I am actually quite a shy one, but somehow, pretty quickly, PI members and mentors gradually helped me out of my shell and closet to where I am today; a more outgoing, fun loving, and easygoing person. Helped me be comfortable to be myself. I do not think I could have managed to be where I am today without them. They have helped me through high school where I took charge of the school's GSA. It has helped me to help others. Everyone supports each other in this comfortable environment. Everyone is quite different from one another. The diversity within our group is overwhelming yet wonderful! One thing we have in common, though, of course, would be us uniting to support the queer youth community. LGBTQ, no matter what you label yourself it is a great place for any and all, as I see it.
We have support from our many mentors, so it is not just for youth. And everyone goes through an intake process to join, which makes it that much more safe and comfortable of an atmosphere. I feel like I learn and grow from every meeting. At many times I find myself wishing the rest of the world could experience the thoughts and feelings we all share with one another. The insight, ideas, and support is wonderful it is hard to put into words. I don't know of any other support group that I can so highly recommend. I have grown such a strong bond with these loving and open-minded people, it makes me wonder what I'd been doing with all the time I used to have on my hands. I think that's about it.
