Annelise
Hey! My name is Annelise, I am seventeen years old and a student at the Santa Rosa Junior College. I am studying psychology, and really enjoy that. Some of my interests and likes are; art, excercise, yoga, cuddling up and reading, writing in my journal, having fun with friends, taking care of myself, working with others, and enjoying nature. (those are just a few among many others)
When I was little and realized that I was not interested in boys and that I like girls, I shoved that feeling down and denied it for a long time before actually coming to grips with it. I went through feelings of loneliness, depression, and then when I was in my early teens I found my two best friends....marijuana and alcohol. Drinking and Using gave me the ability, for only a short while, to not feel any of my feelings around my sexuality and also around life itself. Suicide was very appealing to me. I looked for an escape for several years.
A friend of mine started mentioning P.I. to me and telling me about what it did for her and about the people she met. So I decided, after a long time of being isolated, to reach out and contact Positive Images. I have been a member for a couple of months now and I am learning how to be comfortable in my own skin and how to be comfortable with being queer. Being able to come to P.I. regularly and be around other queer youth has been such a wonderful experience for me. I look forward to each weekly meeting all week long. The feelings I get inside myself when I am at PI are acceptance, love, and tolerance.
