PI Alumni

Alumni Network Ideas

·         Alumni Committee: Have an on-going alumni committee who volunteers to maintain network and plan for events, etc.

Dawn, Bryan, Art, Jeffrey, Beverlee, Wendy, Alderin, Keith, Alan, Rebekah, Liz, J.T., John-John, Jim, and Chandra.

·         Annual Get Together/Retreat: Potentially in the first year have a dinner/house party.  In the future, have retreats that may be weekend-long events with content workshops, support and check-in gatherings, and fundraising opportunities.

Art, Bryan, Dawn, Beverly, Jeffrey, Alderin, Jim, and Chandra.

·         Late 20’s/30’s Monthly Support Groups: For local alumni, have monthly meetings at PI house, where we can focus on specific topics relevant to late 20’s/30’s young adults.  Elder mentors serve as “experts” on the late young adult experience.  May also lead into activism such as marriage rights and other civil/social/political issues.  Possibly facilitated by Jim and Chandra.  Topics for these convenings may also be used for the annual retreats and can be open to all members, and may also be a place to invite to older membership.  Some ideas include:

o        Financial management

o        School (Grad School/Undergrad) support

o        Workforce development support

o        Family planning (adoption, artificial insemination)

o        Legal information/Guidance

o        Marriage

o        Health (HIV/AIDS, and wo/men/transgender health)

Keith, Jim, and Chandra.

·         Fundraising: Membership dues ($30 - $50 annually) to participate in the alumni network.  These funds go to support retreats/events.  Also form committees around fundraising for all PI activities.  Draw from alumni additional members of the board.  Support grant writing and other fundraising functions.

Bryan

·         Graduation/Exiting Interview: Have current P.I. members complete an exiting interview when they are exiting P.I. to gather current contact information and interest in participating in the alumni network.

Nancy

·         Big Bro/Sis to Members: 20’s/30’s mentors who are not yet in the 35 age range can fulfill different mentoring abilities.

Alderin

·         Website/Newsletter: Have a section of the website that features alumni calendar, events, and other identified features.  Have an “alumni only” section that features bios of alumni and contact information.  May also have a photo gallery of PI members from the past and current.  Newsletter will feature information about alumni events, activities, and updates.

Chandra

·         List serve: Alumni (and members) can volunteer to join the list serve, which may feature general communication, questions and responses out to the list serve, etc.

Keith

·         Directory: Features bios and updated contact information about alumni for other alumni to access.  May also feature “specialties” to serve as resources to the rest of the network for content or advice on a range of skills, professional, and personal content “expertise”.
